Be like me!

There's a meme-generator going around Facebook called "Be like Bill." The idea is that you type in your name and gender and it generates a positive/non-annoying behavior statement and encourages your friends to be like you.

I instantly loved it and had to try it multiple times. They made me laugh!
Do I have a boyfriend? You don't know 'cause I don't post pictures!
(I don't have a boyfriend.)
I complain in texts to individuals, like any well-adjusted person.
I care a little, but that doesn't mean I'm not happy for my friends.
Haha. Awkward.
#laidoff
(Don't worry. I'm the opposite of starving.)
This is the one I put on Facebook.
One of my friends said since she's married it doesn't apply to her.
So, she only knows one man? I don't understand her logic.
To be clear, I like my profile photos -- else I wouldn't choose them -- but I don't click Like on my own photos.
That's just obnoxious.
Umm, sure.
Truth!
#belikemegan
I hope I've stopped doing this.
Slap me if I do it.

It wasn't long before the spoofs started showing up.
Done and done
The Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 3:7

I love this. A lot.
I do actually want to be more like Jesus.

Sadly, it's only been about two days and the gag has already become annoying.

The internet is fickle!

Is He Dead? opens today and closes on Saturday

Is He Dead? opens tonight! I'm very proud of this little comedy*, my friends. The script is brilliant, made even funnier through my costars' performances and Ryan's direction.

I think you'll like this one. (Actually, I'm anticipating quite a few "It was better than I thought it would be" comments.)

Sweethearts Francois and Marie
The Leroux family
The Widow Daisy Tilloux
Yes, I wore this costume in Little Women and Jekyll and Hyde.
I may have requested it.
I love it.
I will not apologize.
Three merry widows
"Shroompf and sink... but do it with a cuuuuurve."
These men have awesome chemistry together.
Wait until you see all of this guy's disguises. Favorite!

The menu is salad, breadsticks, pot roast, mashed potatoes, gravy, mixed vegetables, and a choice of either tuxedo mousse cake or strawberry shortcake.

Conversation with my nieces while playing Pretty, Pretty Princess:

Me [finding chocolate on the game board]: Oh no! Please try to keep the game clean.
Breezy: Why?
Me: Cause I might have little girls someday and I'll want to play this game with them.
Breezy: You will have little girls.
Zonks: You might have little boys.
Me: I might, and I'll play the game with them.
Zonks: Boys don't like jewelry!
Me: Maybe not, but they like to win!

Love Breezy's optimism and Zonks's opinions. They are so funny and smart and they totally get me!

Like a zombie?

This is one of my favorite commercials, so I'm sharing partly to keep track of it. The actress played Jane in The Lizzie Bennett Diaries and I love her un-phased delivery here!

Happy Friday!

Memes that make me giggle: A cow's opinion

You'd be surprised how often I think this about people I don't agree with.

They're all just "moo."

Today is the 20th anniversary of the day the Friends pilot first aired. Even now, it's one of my favorite shows. I find ways to insert quotes into my daily life, and I maintain that I learned my brilliant comedic timing from Matthew Perry's Chandler. In college, I had a major conflict with some roommates who didn't approve of the show and wouldn't let me watch it in our apartment. During my first job, I bonded with another girl over our love for it. I was very upset with my mom for not keeping me posted on character developments while I was on my mission -- she promised to tell me if Monica and Chandler got engaged or married (which they did). Friends was weirdly important for me during my young adult years. Watching those fictional characters make mistakes as they tried to figure out their lives gave me permission to not know what I was doing, too. Like them, my life did not go according to plan, but it somehow turned out okay. I needed that validation back then. I still do, sometimes.

Happy birthday, Friends. Thanks for being there for me "when the rain starts to pour." Still hoping to find my own lobster!

Memes that make me giggle: Chief Wiggum's slip of the tongue

"Bake him away toys" is one of my favorite ever lines from The Simpsons. I quote it a lot, and then I always giggle, regardless of whether anyone else gets it. Maybe next time you will and we can laugh together :)

Happy Monday!

Dressing up for work

Once upon a time, I worked with a guy named Brock. Brock and I worked together for the better part of a year, and he wore jeans and a t-shirt to work everyday.

Then, one day, he wore a button-down shirt and a tie. We'd never seen him look so fancy; we teased him about having a job interview during lunch. Brock was a really jokey guy, so we were kind of taken aback when he became defensive.

The next day, he turned in his two-week notice, because he HAD gone on a job interview, and that WAS why he was dressed up at work.

The lesson I learned from this experience is to dress up for work once in awhile -- even though I don't really have to -- so that if I ever need to do an interview during work hours no one will suspect me ;)

I've been thinking about this lately 'cause I realized it had been awhile since I put any effort into my work clothes. Jeans and sweaters suit me just fine for sitting and staring at a computer all day. I'm not really looking for another job, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to step up my fashion sense just a little, even if the only people to see me are my co-workers. So I have.

I forgot how much better I feel when I put effort into my every day dress!

And no one has asked any questions ;)

Winning!

*Updated* Personality quizzes galore!

A lot of quizzes have been floating around Facebook lately. There are so many results on my own page that I've promised not to post any more there -- I don't want to annoy/bore people more than I already have. All the same, I cannot resist them, and I find the results pretty fascinating (if not always surprising) each time.

To fulfill my need for lists and recording things for my own sake, and also any curiosity you might have, here are my results:

*Warning: I'm not kidding when I say there are a LOT of these!*

Movie characters:

Which Harry Potter character are you?

I really thought I'd get Ron or Ginny, but Harry's cool, too ;)
Interestingly enough, I took the quiz again and chose "Evil" instead of "Good" and I STILL got Harry Potter. Weird, right?

Which Hunger Games character are you?

I was relieved not to be one of the tributes -- I'm no hero!

Which Leonardo DiCaprio character are you?*
YES! I am not surprised by this one at all. The costumes in that film were gorgeous.

Which Mean Girl are you?

I do see myself as the "normal" (boring?) one a lot of the time ;)

Which Toy Story character are you?

I'm starting to sense a trend with these movie characters... (Let's pretend I don't have more than four boxes of childhood Barbie stuff in storage, k?)

Which Disney Princess are you?

One of my favorites! Hooraaaay!

TV show characters:

Which Glee Character Are You?

We do have a similar taste in clothes :D

Which Golden Girl are you?

Truer than I care to admit!

Which Parks and Recreation character are you?

It was the "how would you treat yo' self?" question that got me. A Batman suit would be awesome!!

Which Saved by the Bell character are you?

I understand why I got this one, but I still don't agree.

Which Once Upon a Time character are you?

I don't object to Belle in general, and the description is pretty accurate, but I am starting to loathe the actress who plays her.
So, just for fun, I took it again and chose "Evil" instead of "Good":

I'm much more happy with this one!

Results I couldn't replicate:

I haven't been able to reproduce the results on these. Apparently I'm different today than when I first took them:

Which Big Bang Theory character are you?

The first time I took this quiz, I got Raj, but when I tried to open up that link it made me start over. I got Amy the second time, which I think is probably more accurate (especially the last line).

Which Game of Thrones character are you?

"In this quiz, you either win or you die." (That description cracks me up!)
The first time, I got Ned Stark. Noble, family-loving, steady Ned. The second time was kind of drastically different:

This character is so brilliant. I am totally ok with this!

Which Star Wars character are you?

Once upon a time, a guy friend told me that my best friend and I remind him of C3PO and R2-D2 because "Megan worries a lot and Katie's chirpy." So, I wasn't entirely surprised by my result the first time. Today:

I'm happier with her!

Random

Who would play you in a movie?

The first time I took this, I missed the Actor/Actress question, and I got:

The second time I wanted to be a girl (you know, the leading lady in my own life):

Which Disney Prince is your true love?

Note: I loved this quiz. I felt like the questions weren't leading me in a specific direction and was genuinely surprised by the result!

I think we'd get on well together :D

What's Your Dream Island:

Well, I know now where to take my next vacation!

Oh my gosh. I am kind of embarrassed by the sheer amount of time I have spent on taking (and retaking in a few cases) these quizzes. Or am I just proud of the results? Who knows? I'm hungry now -- gonna find me a PBJ (my current lunch of choice).

Have you tried any of these quizzes?
Were you surprised at any of your results?
Were you surprised by any of mine?

Happy Friday!

*I cannot stop. These quizzes are becoming an obsession.

I accept your applause

While doing our first read-through for The Sound of Music, I noticed the following stage direction in the script (which I helpfully highlighted for the photo):
"They accept the audience's applause."

When I posted this photo on Instagram, my cousin Emily said "If it's not written in the script, do you reject the applause???"

I had the same thought, which is why I started giggling. My friend Kenn asked me what was so funny, so I pointed out the direction and said, "I accept your applause." Then HE started giggling, sang the end of the song, and we both said together, "I accept your applause" at which point a few people turned around to see what was going on. We were supposed to be listening to the people reading, so we were being very rude, but we couldn't get over how funny that direction was.

So, just know that the next time I get any applause, I will curtsey or bow or whatever the director deems appropriate, but in my head I will be thinking "I accept your applause." Because, apparently, if I don't formally accept it, it will be the same as rejecting it, and I really do appreciate the gesture!

The Darlene Sunshine Show

I borrowed Stranger Than Fiction from Netflix this week. It had been awhile since I'd seen this movie and I remembered liking it. I had to watch it twice before sending it back! It's just so smart and funny and poignant and sad, and the performances and production values make me want to cheer.

I watched all of the DVD Extras and found the gem I'm posting below. This "interview" was improv-ed, which makes me like it even more. Emma Thompson and Kristen Chenoweth? Yes, please! They are great together. I couldn't breathe because I laughed so hard at the discussion about Karen Eiffel's previous books.
Darlene (Kristen): *laughing* I feel so silly!
Karen (Emma): *under her breath* You should.
Watch it. Laugh.

You're welcome for bringing this in to your life!

I don't look my age...

Last night at the temple, I complimented the lady sitting next to me on her gorgeous, enormous, wedding ring. She said, "Thank you," and then asked if I was married.

"Nope." I replied, showing her my naked left hand.

She asked if I was getting ready to serve a mission, and I said I had already served.

Then she asked me if I got to take advantage of the new age limit, and I responded that I was almost 22 when I left, and I wasn't sure if I would have been ready at 19.

That's when I realized this woman thought I was in my early twenties. She might have even thought I WAS twenty! Golly, I needed that shot of self-esteem yesterday! Thanks, lady!

Not bad for a girl who's well into her thirties :-)

I would like to thank my parents for looking younger than their ages,
my family and friends for allowing and often encouraging me to act like a crazy kid,
my facial lady for helping me take such good care of my skin,
and Heavenly Father for sending me to the temple last night (it was a beneficial trip in other, probably more important ways, as well), and for everything else I have in this world.

Sometimes looking younger than my age is a curse: it seems that men my age aren't interested in someone who looks like their little sister, and younger men aren't interested in a girl my age.
Sometimes it's a blessing: remember how I played Amy in Little Women last year?

But for better or worse, I am who I am: the girl my friends think of when they see a tiara ;)
Emily crowns me "Miss Amazing 2008"
Sleeping Beauty and Destro
My first "real" tiara -- a gift from Kate :)
Cinderella
New Year's tiara
Tiny tiara!
Disney princesses

Four of these six tiaras are mine *sheepish grin*

I'm okay with that :)

Happy Friday!
