Seven Brides for Seven Brothers opens Thursday!

My latest play, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers opens on Thursday! I am terrified for my part. I know my lines, but spitting them out correctly is a challenge. (My darn English-major brain keeps rearranging the grammar in my head!) I love playing Milly, though. She is such a strong, confident, wonderful character. It's been a stretch for me and I have learned a lot these last two months. I am having a great time and I hope that it shows!

I think it's going to be a really fun show. My brilliant cast has been working hard, the production team has guided us well, and the choreography and set and costumes are phenomenal. I hope you all can come! If you don't already have the performance details, please write your email address into a comment and I'll send the information to you :D

See you from the stage!

*I originally posted this at 10:49pm on 6/14. However, I want this post to be at the top of the post queue, and I blogged again today, so I'm changing the date. The end.

Tybbling

tyb·ble*  /ˈtahybəl/ Show Spelled [tyb-uhl] Show IPA verb, -bled, -bling
To babble through the written word, such as an e-mail or blog post.

My friend Steph wrote a rambling post today and I liked it, so I want to write one, too. Here is mine:

- Yesterday, google reader suggested my own blog to me. I thought that was nice, though odd, since I was logged in. Then I noticed I have 32 people following me! That sounds like a lot and I can't fathom who you all are. Thanks, followers! Hope I don't disappoint you too often!

- Every time I walk past the tiara Kate gave me, I want to put it on and wear it around the house. I only sometimes resist that urge.

- I see a sick day for me in the near future. I'm tired and I can feel my body fighting off some sort of cold. Maybe it's just allergies. Either way, I am going to need a day to recoup.

- I ring a cowbell as the dinner bell in Seven Brides, and last week I wacked myself in the wrist with it. And now my wrist hurts. Did I mention it's my left wrist and I'm lefthanded? It sucks.

- I claim purple as my favorite color, but it may really be blue. Or pink. Or green. Or it may actually be purple. My favorite color is not yellow or orange.

- I miss my house. It really needs to be cleaned. Hope I'll get to spend more time there after the show closes.

- It's possible I'm too old for sponge curlers. I simply don't see an occasion where I would wear a hairstyle requiring them. It's the end of an era!

- I really do fit right in with software engineers, but at this point I don't really want to date one.

- My nephew had the best 6th birthday a kid can have, thanks to his awesome, loving parents and doting extended family. I wish I got a trip to Disneyland for my birthday!

- There is something wonderful about peeling off sweaty tights after a show. Be free, my legs! Be freeeeeee!

- Even though most of my television shows are on hiatus during the summer, I still have plenty to watch. Too bad there is no time to watch them...

- Haven't seen any more gray hairs as of yet.

- I am grateful for two girlfriends who each helped me out in awkward situations last week when I ran into some boys I didn't want to talk to. I am so, so glad I did not choose to go to those events alone. I really appreciate their third-party level-headedness and listening ears afterward!

- My Seven Brides director and her daughters quote the t.v. show Friends and movies I know a lot. It always tickles them when I immediately grasp their jokes, and it always tickles me when they get mine! "We were on a break!!"

- A computer does exactly what I tell it to do. No more, no less. Sometimes I wish it would just read my mind!

- Curly hair does it's own thing... unless I tell it what to do. Then it does exactly what I tell it to do. Even if I tell it to do something ugly. Sometimes I'm glad it doesn't read my mind and take offense to what I'm thinking.

- Haven't opened Seven Brides yet and I'm already preparing myself for another show. I'm not sure if I'm crazy or...yes, I'm probably just crazy. Crazy about theatre, that is!

- I hardly ever eat at fancy or semi-fancy restaurants. I frequently haunt Wendy's and Subway, but I'd sort of like to go to the Lion House or Sawadee or Tandoor or the Melting Pot. It's been awhile. (Now I'm hungry.)

- It's also embarassing when I make plans with friends, they ask where I want to eat and I can't think of anything interesting. I don't even know what places are close to my house. Lame. Good thing my friends are willing to humor me with places like Mimis Cafe, Chili's, and the Olive Garden. I love those places! (Now I'm very hungry.)

C'est tout!

*I made this word up and I like it, so I'm using it and encourage you all to do the same.

Evolution of a Hairstyle

I wanted to do something different with my hair, and since I'm in the midst of rehearsals I can't cut or dye it. So, the most likely alternative is to straighten it, right? Well, I feel mean to my hair when I blow dry it and then immediately use a straightener on it. I thought it might be kinder to sleep in pincurls and then straighten it the next day once I've had the fun of the bouncy, loopy curls. I didn't actually get so far as to completely straighten it -- I decided sleep was more important. Plus, it was a rainy weekend, and my hair doesn't stay straight in any kind of humidity.

Here is as far as I got! Too bad the photos aren't more flattering... c'est la vie!

1. below, more or less my normal, albeit seriously windblown, hairstyle

2. pin curls... which I wore to work, resulting in most people not recognizing me from a distance :P

3. the result of my pin curls. Hello, Shirley Temple hair!

4. shaken, not brushed

5. brushed out the next day (after having been slept on)

Honestly, the results probably would have been similar had I just used the straightener on it in the first place. I am too lazy and my equipment too cheap to get all of the kinks out of my hair; my cowlicks mock me. Maybe it's time for some more "salon-grade" equipment...

Wow. That was a boring post. I'll try harder next time!

Happy today, everybody!

Going Gray

I found my first gray hair Sunday morning. I knew it would happen someday, but I thought -- with my hair being so blonde and so curly -- that I wouldn't notice until I had a whole bunch, and even then it would be a few years away. I probably have some right now and just haven't seen them.

Well, Mother Nature has a sense of humor, and just to make sure I wouldn't miss it, she put it in my left EYEBROW! Right next to my eye! I thought it was a piece of fuzz, and I was horrified when I had to pluck it out! I might not have been so traumatized if it had been in the hair on top of my head. I expect it to be there. But my EYEBROWS?! My lovely, full, dark eyebrows?

I might have left it there if it hadn't been so skeewampuss and curly. The rest of my eyebrows lay so nicely. Talk about adding insult to injury.

I am not prepared for this! I may have laugh lines around my eyes, but in my head I'm only twenty-two. Where did this come from?!! I guess time marches on. I don't have any kids to mark the passage of time, so instead I'm watching it march across my face. Humph!

It sucks to get old. It sucks worse when I can see it happening right above my eyes!
