Going Gray

I found my first gray hair Sunday morning. I knew it would happen someday, but I thought -- with my hair being so blonde and so curly -- that I wouldn't notice until I had a whole bunch, and even then it would be a few years away. I probably have some right now and just haven't seen them.

Well, Mother Nature has a sense of humor, and just to make sure I wouldn't miss it, she put it in my left EYEBROW! Right next to my eye! I thought it was a piece of fuzz, and I was horrified when I had to pluck it out! I might not have been so traumatized if it had been in the hair on top of my head. I expect it to be there. But my EYEBROWS?! My lovely, full, dark eyebrows?

I might have left it there if it hadn't been so skeewampuss and curly. The rest of my eyebrows lay so nicely. Talk about adding insult to injury.

I am not prepared for this! I may have laugh lines around my eyes, but in my head I'm only twenty-two. Where did this come from?!! I guess time marches on. I don't have any kids to mark the passage of time, so instead I'm watching it march across my face. Humph!

It sucks to get old. It sucks worse when I can see it happening right above my eyes!

Embrace it, I say!! I felt the same way with my first grey hair (in my brown hair so it was super noticeable) and I plucked it out. Now, I say embrace it!! I think it shows you have lived a nice full life and earn the wears and tears of adulthood. I even name the grey hair now. I have one called "Mom's Cancer" and one called "Summer Musical" just to name a few (very few, there are many now!)And if it makes you feel any better, my cute little brother had a nice patch of grey in high school. So you did pretty well I would say! The first one is the worst, and I think an eyebrow does add to the insult. But it only gets better from here!!

Ohhhh my hair is so dark that any grays of mine showed up immediately! And I found my first at age 21! 21? I know! What the crap? Finally, when I turned 30 this year, I knew I needed to start coloring it, which made me feel old. Hey, you're such a hot blonde, and at least you could pluck it out, right?

Oh, man. I got mine a few years ago. My younger sister saw it too. I'm not quite ready to color it yet...I agree getting older is not fun!

I met Ephraim today. I don't know what that has to do with a gray hair, but I met him at Macey's. There he was, standing there, loading our grocies when I commented about the flyer advertising the your current show. He said "Megan Smith?" and I said, "No, no, Ephraim, it's Smyth..." It was funny. I love your eyes :)
